The Change We [Really] Need

Following are excerpts from a press release found by The Catholic News Agency:

New York, Oct 28, 2008 (CNA) - In a strongly worded article published next to a moving photo of an unborn baby in the womb, Cardinal Edward Egan, Archbishop of New York, compared tolerating abortions to the reasoning used by Adolf Hitler and Joseph Stalin to commit mass murders.

After describing a recent video depicting the humanity of babies in their mothers' wombs, the Archbishop of New York says that if you can convince yourself that these beings are something other than living and innocent human beings, something, for example, such as 'mere clusters of tissues,' you have a problem far more basic than merely not appreciating the wrongness of abortion. And that problem is--forgive me--self-deceit in a most extreme form....

..."It is high time to stop pretending that we do not know what this nation of ours is allowing and approving with the killing each year of more than 1,600,000 innocent human beings within their mothers. We know full well that to kill what is clearly seen to be an innocent human being or what cannot be proved to be other than an innocent human being is as wrong as wrong gets, he adds."

"Do me a favor," Cardinal Egan writes, "Look at the photograph again. Look and decide with honesty and decency what the Lord expects of you and me as the horror of legalized abortion continues to erode the honor of our nation. Look, and do not absolve yourself if you refuse to act."

Personally, I am impressed and grateful to Cardinal Egan and the many Christians' who speak up on moral issues with conviction and courage.

Some Things Christians Can Do For America:

Typically, when a Christian strongly and openly defends an issue of righteousness for his country, he is criticized and labeled a liar, right-wing fanatic, or something, that suggests those committed to the good fight are ignorant and naive.

Of course, on the other hand, when that same Christian "slips" and does something that is not Christ-like, he is quickly labeled a religious hypocrite.

As with any important cause we, as Christians, must expect and be prepared for adversity.

The evils confronting America have never been more threatening, insidious, or powerful and our country needs us more than ever before. In solidarity and conviction, Christians need to stand up and make a difference!

Consider some possibilities to help bring "change":

Never underestimate the power of righteous example and be that kind of example!

One thing is reasonably certain: If enough Americans live worthy of God's intervention and miracles in their lives, and inspire enough people around them to strive with all their hearts to do likewise then according to biblical principles and teachings, God will spare our country, no matter what evils confront it.

hi judi,

this was a well written, interesting, and articulate article.

you would think that in this day and age, we could teach our children from an adequate age, not to have unprotected sex, but so far, nothing seems to work, not even the threat of diseases like aids, that kill. if every woman going in for an abortion wouldhave to play with an infant for an hour before they went in, maybe more would change their mind. it would put a "face" to the thing they are about to get rid of.

and i think parents should be more tolerant of their teens making a mistake, and help guide them, and look forward to a grandchild. theres' a big difference to killing something unseen, than to hold it and feel it breath, and watch it smile, and feel it's fingers grab on to yours. but if one is afraid of what their parents will do, they tend to go behind their backs and have the procedure done, and are back at basketball practice that afternoon.

thanks for sharing your thoughts, and letting me share mine,

my best to you,

sue

The article was all over the board with no central theme. The video was abstract in its relation to the article. I appreciate your writing but I felt as if the article could have been more focused in the point that was being made.

I appreciate the fact that God is a central point in your life...and I respect that. I, as a person of a different belief tend to lose interest when scriptures are quoted. When I see them I just blurb right past them.

As I ask all writers...Try to make your point without the reference to a specific scripture and you may hold the interest of those with different beliefs.

God Bless!

Hello Mr. Keith, You made me laugh and I appreciate your comments; perhaps I am guilty of thinking "abstract" -- my own husband often tells me the same...but then again, he's stuck with me (smile) - Not knowing what your beliefs are, I am glad you respect mine but you confuse me as no scriptures were used in this article - actually, it is quite known that that one of my weakest gifts is "quoting scriptures" - I tend to write more from the heart and what began in this article was portions from a press release - As we all know, Mr. Keith, some will get our writings and some won't but isn't that the beauty of living in the land of the free?

Judi we are back to God again. For the believer a wonderful article filled with zeal. For the unbeliver or one of another belief they don't care to hear or know about your God. So your point, although excellent, does not wring true for them. They lack the belief or the fear or the faith necessary to grasp the concept. Now that does not mean you should stop writing or using God for the few. Remembr we are supposedly and that is a word many need to look up, supposedly a Christain nation based on Christian fundamentals. So for all of those "professed christians" this meaassge should serve as, well lets say an awakening call. Iueg you to tead 2nd Timothy Cahpater 3 and 4 especially. In the last days there will come.  bets wishes my friend, good work, Robert.

Judi, thank you for speaking up for the unborn so well. Very good thoughts to inspire action in those who care. I hope to be more faithful in this area.
