Our America: A Nation Filled With “Contemporary Moral Values”

For years, the uproar regarding the same-sex marriage issue in the United States has been deafening.

On Thursday, May 15, 2008, California's Supreme Court declared that gay couples in the nation's most populous state can marry legally. This historical ruling is a monumental victory for the entire gay community.

"Essentially, this boils down to love. We love each other. We now have equal rights under the law," declared an ecstatic Robin Tyler, a plaintiff in the case. She added: "We're going to get married. No Tupperware, please."

(Oh, America is, once again, " spreading the lo-o-ove.") A jubilant crowd of people raised their fists in triumph inside City Hall and people wrapped themselves in the rainbow-colored gay-pride flag outside the courthouse. By the afternoon, gay and lesbian couples had already started lining up at San Francisco City Hall to make appointments to get marriage licenses.

James Dobson, chairman of the conservative Christian group “Focus on the Family," called the ruling an outrage. In an e-mail statement, he wrote, "It will be up to the people of California to preserve traditional marriage by passing a constitutional amendment.... Only then can they protect themselves from this latest example of judicial tyranny."

In its 4-3 ruling, the Republican-dominated high court struck down state laws against same-sex marriage and said domestic partnerships that provide many of the rights and benefits of matrimony are not enough. "In contrast to earlier times, our state now recognizes that an individual's capacity to establish a loving and long-term committed relationship with another person and responsibly to care for and raise children does not depend upon the individual's sexual orientation," Chief Justice Ronald George wrote for the majority in ringing language that delighted gay rights activists.

This historical ruling, for me, is another demonstration of America’s [decaying] “contemporary value system."

Am I against gay people? No. I personally have many friends who are gay. Let me put it this way: it is sorta like “love the sinner / hate the sin."

There is a tendency for many Christians to declare that being gay is the worst of all sins. While homosexuality is undeniable immoral and unnatural, in no sense does the Bible describe homosexuality as an unforgivable sin. Nor does the Bible teach that homosexuality is a sin Christians will never struggle against.

Some strongly heterosexual men and women have experienced slight homosexual urges at some point in their lives. Whether or not these desires and temptations exist does not determine whether a person is Godly. The Bible is clear that nobody is sinless (1 John 1:8,10). While the specific sin or temptation varies from one person to another, all human beings struggle with sin, and all Christians sometimes fail in those struggles.

In other words, there is no human being who is not battling with some sort of temptation or “demon."

It’s what we do with “our inner demons" that matters.

With Thursday’s ruling, America is again refusing to understand that our God is the same today, tomorrow and yesterday.

He hasn’t changed; we have. Sorry, but that’s just the way it is. And I believe that our God is truly weeping over our America because… …America is increasingly rejecting God. As a result, our nation is experiencing unparalleled moral decay. National immorality flourishes when the hearts of a nation reject God and His principles. Simply stated, "Spiritual decline leads to moral decay!" When there is a vacuum of immorality in a society, it stands to reason that something will come to fill it.

There has been an influx of decadence raging across our America: alcoholism, drug abuse, teen pregnancy, abortion, homosexuality, school violence, child abuse, pornography, rape, robbery and murder pervade our nation.

And now it’s okay for a child to be raised with two mommies or two daddies.

Wow, that’s giving our children something to look up to.

Historically, we are living in “an anything goes" society.

America is drowning in wickedness and immorality. By all measures, this influx has eroded the moral and political foundations that our America was originally founded upon.

As God and His principles continue to be systematically and incrementally removed from our America, our nation and individuals will continue to experience even greater moral decay.

As George Washington so wisely once warned, "... Reason and experience both forbid us to expect that national morality can prevail to the exclusion of religious principle."

And… George Mason, the Father of the Bill of Rights, said, "As nations cannot be rewarded or punished in the next world, so they must be in this. By an inevitable chain of causes and effects, Providence punishes national sins by national calamities."

Contemporary moral values? Our America no longer has any values.

Lord, please open the hearts of those that refuse to hear Your voice and come back to our America… we need you

Yes Judi, behind it all is always an agenda, a secret goal or objective. It started decades ago with the dismantling of families and the breakdown in authority, respect values and yes the eventual breakdown and replacement of what was known an character. It is now ethical relativity. Now we certainly hear the cry of racist, bigot, crazy, zealot or whatever else which is used by the thief to steal and cover the true objective. The diversions are many to intimidate. What is being taught in our schools, the study of other cultures and acceptance of other ways of life. Why, Globalism, period. It is the ideology of the age to user in the New Age, but not hat age they expect [wink]. Yes Judi and it will come to pass and it is being implemented and as that professor said to me years ago in Jersey City New Jersey, and at a leading Catholic College "there isn't a damn thing you can do about it". Well there is Judi, if parents, mothers, fathers, good people everywhere understand just what this current batch of leaders is allowing and promoting even while professing otherwise. We must, each and every one of us bring about change. Bring it about starting with our friends and family and voting every single one of these politicans OUT. Then we will start to get back our nation, our way of life. Yes, sin will always be with everyone of us but to what degree do we allow it to impact our nation and influence our society? With all the warmest regards for you and yours, Robert.

Judi, I couldn't agree more. It is getting worse and worse where "the arm of the flesh" moves more and more into beliefs (yes, in the plural, not a single, eternal standard that has always been and always will be based on an all-knowing, all-seeing perspective) that take us helter skelter across the map in moral subjectivity. In Jonathan Swift's Gulliver's Travels, those of the higher or rational mind (man's mind) come up with impractical "brilliant ideas" floating high above the masses (literally and figuratively) on the Island of LaPuta (Whore: Swift agreed with Martin Luther who said that the reason or rational mind of man is the great whore of the earth) while the people below starve and live in squalor. Are we living in moral squalor? Considering the nature of people in society today, are we in trouble? Compare how the majority live against this warning of the last days: "For men shall be lovers of their own selves, covetous, boasters, proud, blasphemers, disobedient to parents, unthankful, unholy, without natural affection (sex with anyone: the porno industry outearns the three major sports leagues), trucebreakers, false accusers, incontinent, fierce, despisers of those that are good, traitors, high-minded, lovers of pleasure more than lovers of God; having a form of godliness but denying the poser thereof: from such turn away" (2 Timothy 3). Times are dangerous when we are in recession, fighting terrorists, wars and rumors of wars, but the most dangerous times are those in which the many see all is well while moral decay and permissiveness grow in abundance. Great article.

Such wisdom within your comments, Jeff. I especially liked what you wrote, "... (Whore: Swift agreed with Martin Luther who said that the reason or rational mind of man is the great whore of the earth) ..." Yes, Jeff, the times we are in ARE dangerous but the general public are not looking in the right place. I am too young to have witnessed the many downhill changes within our society. Thanks for your inspiring comments, I am humbled.

Hi E! Very well said. It is so sad that Satan has blinded the eyes of those who continually resist God and His word. Instead, those who profess to love God, turn around and approve sin. It is heart-breaking, but I understand, because I was once blind. Yet God in His grace opened my eyes the moment I said Lord, I believe, but help my unbelief! Unfortunately, these same people who reject God's provision, also want His blessing. And according to God that will not happen. Homesexuality is no more a sin than adultery, sex out of wedlock and gossip. Sin is sin, the only difference is that some sins carry harder and more painful consequences. May God open our eyes and may he forgive us Christians who have not set a good example of the character of God. Thanks for a great article. Love you bunches, L

Hey, Lucy! I really believe that the Lord is weeping mightily over the stupidity and ignorance of His children -- that is heartbreaking because through Him comes our true freedom. Thanks for your wisdom and hugs at you!

Terry, I thought I was too late as I was thinking of writing this and then figured, oh, well, different perspectives are good so the more the better. With that, if you want to write on this, do so because you'd certainly bring a great perspective on the topic. Thanks for commenting and Happy Memorial Day!

Love the article Judy and thank you for sharing it with us. Teresa wrote how these same people who reject God's provision, also want His blessing and I could not agree more.
